The Fan Club was originally founded in 1985 by Kent Herkenrath. At the invitation of an old classmate, Peter Ueberroth, Mr. Herkenrath became a liaison for the soccer games at Stanford University during the 1984 Olympics. That summer, while watching his son's trade and sell the sports pins that they had collected from players, a light came on that led to the most fulfilling part of Kent's career. The Fan Club opened a year later in the Old Mill shopping center in Mountain View , and the store's 49er Faithful Fan Club was formed. From then on, it was an amazing ride through five 49er Super Bowls, 12 Pro Bowls, several Olympic Games and a Bay Area World Cup. The Fan Club was fortunate enough to host Joe Montana's first professional autograph signing during his rookie year with the 49ers. Having moved to the former Town and Country shopping center in West San Jose , the store became the largest of its kind in the country, and its fan club membership grew to about 15,000 members internationally. Unfortunately Kent passed away in March of 2007, but his memory and The Fan Club live on through both the fanclubsports.com and 49erfanclub.com websites. The brick and mortar store finally closed in October, 2006. Dedicated to keep the business alive for all of the loyal customers and fans alike, Bob Madsen has resurrected the stores ecommerce sites with the goal of providing quality sports merchandise to sports fans throughout the world. We look forward to serving our customers with our new ecommerce sites.
